Our Worship at Grace Church

The Sunday worship schedule of Grace Church consists of four distinct congregations, which previously (before Katrina) worshiped at different times and in different ways.  After Katrina they worship together and combine their diverse styles of worship. The variety of our worship reflects the diversity of our congregation.

10:00 AM  Holy Eucharist (Rite II)

The liturgy of the principal service, held in a large worship space, is rich in ceremony and music. Chanting, bells and incense are a regular part of our renewed Anglo-Catholic style of worship. Assisting the priest is a deacon, often an assisting priest, eucharistic ministers, and a cantor.  Others read from scripture, help to lead song, and serve as acolytes. Our minister of music and the choir lead the people in singing. This liturgy includes Hispanic texts and music and music of African heritage.

All are welcome, all are included, the rich and the poor, people of all colors and backgrounds, the young and the old. We have no dress code. Children have their own liturgy of the word (or Sunday school), join the rest of us for the prayers of the people, and receive communion with everyone else. We encourage all to participate actively in the entire celebration, singing, offering names and concerns for prayer, giving thanks, and receiving communion.

On Sundays, after communion, there is time for announcements, and then the priest gives a blessing and the deacon the dismissal. We go in peace. But usually with a stop in the parish hall for coffee and often a with ample food and desserts.
