Grace Episcopal Church
Worship + Education + Service
+ Festivals
As a people,
we center our life on worship. Through our liturgies we reflect our
spirit of thanksgiving. The Holy Eucharist is our principal service on
Sundays and each Weekday. The daily office is read each morning. We
observe holy days as appointed. See our weekly schedule for details.
We
encourage the involvement
and participation of all who worship here.
Daily
Eucharist…
Grace Church,
3700 Canal Street, offers daily
Morning Prayer and Eucharist (Matins and Mass) at 7:00 a.m. Mondays thru
Saturdays. This 25-30 minute service is well received. The service is in the chapel on Mondays – Thursdays, and in
the chancel on Fridays and Saturdays. Parking is available on Canal Street or on
S. Telemachus Street.
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament each First Wednesday…
Benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament is offered at 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month as part
of weekly Wednesday Evensong.
Our clergy preach sermons grounded in biblical faith, but related to
contemporary
life. Many others contribute as readers, acolytes, eucharistic
ministers, cantors, and
choir members so that our worship is a community celebration.
We believe that
education enables all to grow in faith. Children are welcomed and
included at Grace Church. Every week we provide Sunday School and
childcare, and offer our
young people activities to intrigue their expanding interests.
- Child care
is offered each Sunday from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Sunday School for Children begins
Sundays at 9:45 a.m.
- There is
Bible study and
discussion for adults each Sunday at 8:50 am.
-
We hold a Wednesday
evening education series
for adults several times a year.
Grace Church
Liturgy Workshop
Grace Church Liturgy
Workshop Liturgy emerges out of the life of community. Grace Church Liturgy Workshop (GCLW) explores how liturgy and community
intersect. Based on the concept of theater workshops, GCLW runs in eight week
sessions which develop an experimental liturgy together. The Rev’d
Clayton Morris, Liturgical Officer of the Episcopal Church was at Grace
Church on September 4-5, 2004 to work with the parish in developing this model.
We serve Christ by
serving our neighbors. In partnership with other churches, we
are participating in JEREMIAH, which works to make
government more responsive
to community needs. In cooperation with United Way, we sponsor the
Grace Child Center
offering affordable child care for working parents. With other churches
in our
neighborhood, we run a soup kitchen for the hungry. On Saturdays we
co-sponsor the
Mid-City Music Workshop, a program to teach music to neighborhood kids.
Almost every
evening our facilities are open to a variety of community groups and
12-Step programs.
And, we must not
forget! New Orleans loves to celebrate. When the Mardi Gras parades
roll down Canal Street, we serve food and beverages to parade-goers.
During the second
weekend of JazzFest we stage a joyful Sunday service with jazz
musicians belting out the
great hymns of faith. We bless animals on St. Francis' Day. We anoint
the sick on St.
Luke's Day. Christmas Eve is touching and beautiful. Holy Week &
Easter are solemn and
joyous. Come celebrate with us!
